Why Privacy Matters During Your Family Photo Session
Hiring a photographer to document your family requires trust.
When families book a photo session, most conversations naturally focus on the fun details first. What should we wear? Which location fits our vision best? What time of day will give us the prettiest light?
But before we discuss any of that, there is another important conversation I believe deserves just as much attention.
Privacy.
As a Colorado Springs family photographer, I spend a lot of time sharing my work online. Social media, my website, and portfolio images all help future families discover my business and decide whether I might be the right photographer for them.
But one thing I never do is assume every family is comfortable having their images shared publicly.
Because every family is different, especially when children are involved.
Every Family Has Different Privacy Preferences
For some families, sharing photographs online feels completely natural.
For others, privacy is a much more intentional decision.
Some parents prefer their family photos remain completely private. Others feel comfortable sharing, but prefer their children’s faces not appear online. And many families are perfectly happy allowing their photographer to share images publicly.
There is no right answer.
My role is never to decide what feels right for your family.
My role is to respect your preferences and make sure those expectations are clearly established from the very beginning.
Privacy Is Part of My Booking Process
Before your session is officially booked, I ask every client an important question:
What level of privacy feels right for my family?
This conversation happens during the booking process, and your preferences are clearly documented within your session agreement before we ever begin.
I offer three privacy options.
Full Sharing
You are comfortable allowing me to share your images publicly on my website, portfolio, and social media.
As a small business owner, this kind of support genuinely helps me grow my business, and I’m always incredibly grateful when families choose this option.
But it is never assumed.
Limited Sharing
You are comfortable with me sharing select images publicly, but prefer your child’s face not be visible online.
This option creates a thoughtful middle ground for families who value privacy while still feeling comfortable supporting my business.
Full Privacy
Your gallery remains completely private.
I will never share your images publicly in any capacity.
No exceptions.
What Happens If You Choose Limited Sharing?
One question parents sometimes wonder is whether choosing a privacy-focused option changes the experience of the session itself.
The answer is simple.
Not at all.
You will still receive a gallery filled with variety and intentionality.
Traditional portraits that grandparents will want framed on their walls.
Playful candid photographs that reflect your family’s natural connection.
Movement-filled images that showcase your family dynamic exactly as it exists during this season of life.
The only difference is that I intentionally create images throughout the session that allow me to preserve your child’s privacy while still documenting your family beautifully.
Sometimes that means focusing on tiny hands reaching for yours.
Little feet running through tall summer grass.
Golden light catching wild curls as they run ahead on the trail.
The smallest details often say the most.
My Approach Never Changes
Whether your family chooses full sharing, limited sharing, or complete privacy…
My approach remains exactly the same.
Every family that trusts me receives the same level of care, attention, patience, and intention.
At the end of the day, photography is about more than creating beautiful images.
It is about being trusted with the people you love most.
And that is a responsibility I never take lightly.
If you are looking for a Colorado Springs family photographer who values thoughtful connection, respects your family’s boundaries, and creates photographs with care and integrity, I would love to work with you.
